The project “Youth address gender stereotypes and promote gender equality” was funded by European Commission (EC) (website: http://europa.eu and social media: https://www.facebook.com/EUandVietnam/) through Oxfam in Vietnam and implemented by Consultative Institute for Socio-Economic Development of Rural and Mountainous Areas (CISDOMA) in three biggest cities in Vietnam namely Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh city.

Overall objective of the project: To promote gender equality in Vietnam by increasing youth engagement and participation in addressing gender stereotypes.

The action aims to change public option and actions in the three biggest cities in Vietnam towards equality between men and women in all spheres of life. In order for new gender attitudes and practices to stick, people need to be informed and inspired, apply new behaviors repeatedly, and be recognized for their contributions to their family, community and society. Thus the Action deploys a comprehensive set of interventions that combines (i) behavior change communications that inspire change, (ii) recurring calls for the action among the target public, and (iii) acknowledgement and awards for champions. The Action initiates changes among youth, prominent journalists, and advertisements of pioneer businesses, who will then promote further change to the public. Award mechanisms will encourage target groups to take actions to change gender stereotypes within and beyond the Action’s timeline.
