The USAID “Clean Air Green Cities” project addresses air pollution and its health impacts in Hanoi by mobilizing a network of local partners (including youth, schools, communities, civic and social organizations, businesses, and governments) to take collective action and advocate for clean air. In this project, Consultative Institute for Socio-Economic Development of Rural and Mountainous Areas (CISDOMA) in collaboration with the Center for Live and Learn for the Environment and Community (Live and Learn) and Dan Phuong District Farmers’ Association take action and introduce interventions to reduce rice straw burning.
The objectives of the intervention are two-fold:
In short – terms:
- Raise awareness of community relating to impacts of straw burning, the need of reducing straw burning and suitable solutions
- Reduce burning straw around Dan Phuong district area
- Capacity building for community to compost straw after harvesting to make fertilizer
In long – term:
To improve the air quality in Hanoi outskirt by eliminating the source of pollution.
