In 3 days from March 29 to April 1, 2022, CISDOMA in collaboration with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) Viet Nam, Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh and Yen Bai provinces organized a training of trainers (TOT) for 26 project partners in two provinces.

Within the framework of the project “Ecological agriculture for the sustainable landscape to reduce poverty for ethnic minorities in the Northern mountainous region” (referred to as A4P project), CISDOMA cooperates with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) Viet Nam, the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh and Yen Bai provinces organized a training course for trainers (TOT) on ecological agriculture. Participating in this training course were 26 officials representing the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Agricultural Extension Center, and the Women’s Union from Hoa Binh and Yen Bai provinces.

During the three-day training, the trainees learned about the concept, key elements and principles of agro-ecology and related it to the local context; at the same time, they were introduced to training methods for adults and practiced some basic skills in training and working with people. In addition, the trainees also visited a 50-hectare agro-forestry model in Nam Ban village, Hat Lot commune, Mai Son district and Thanh Cuong Cooperative, Mon village, Co Noi commune, Mai Son district.

This is the first training of trainers of the A4P project, in a series of capacity-building activities for local partners and collaborators that the project will organize in the next 4 years. The project expects that the trainees after participating in this training will be the core collaborators participating with the Project to provide technical guidance, re-train farmers to introduce, apply and replicate local ecological agriculture models.

The project “Ecological agriculture for sustainable landscape to reduce poverty for ethnic minorities in the Northern mountainous regions” (referred to as A4P project) is mainly sponsored by Bread for the World (BftW), expected to be implemented in Hoa Binh from 2021 – August 2025. The Consultative Institute for Socio-Economic Development of Rural and Mountainous Areas (CISDOMA) in conjunction with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) Viet Nam, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh province are the implementing units of the project.
