HANOI – Jointly organized by the Government Inspectorate and World Bank in Vietnam, the Vietnam Innovation Day (VID) 2009 themed “More accountability and transparency, less corruption” attracted hundreds of entries from Vietnam and other countries. Following this success, the Vietnam Anti-Corruption Initiative (VACI) program series was launched by the World Bank in Vietnam, Department for International Development (DFID-UK), and other donors. VACI aims at attracting public attention to anti-corruption from grassroots level.
To encourage public engagement in anti-corruption and ensure sustainability of the achievements garnered, the Government Inspectorate launched the Replicating Anti-Corruption Intiatives in Vietnam program under the UNDP-funded AC-UNCAC project, focusing on four thematic areas: Community Monitoring, Anti-Corruption Education for Adolescents, Raising Public Awareness of Anti-Corruption, and Improvement of Public Services.
The Consultative Institute for Socio-Economic Development of Rural and Mountainous Areas (CISDOMA) entered VID 2009 with the “Pilot Model of Community Participation in the Planning of Public Facilities at local level” initiative, which was implemented in Trang Xa commune, Vo Nhai district, Thai Nguyen province. The initiative was a great success and developed in Quang Binh district, Ha Giang province in 2011 and 2013 respectively. It continued to be selected by the Expanding Anti-Corruption Initiatives in Vietnam program in 2015 as one of the winning models to be adopted by other organizations for replication.
