On 29/8/2016, CISDOMA signed the contract with DAMEN Song Cam Shipyard (DSCS) related to the project of “Waste Management for Hoang Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city”. This project will be implemented in one year to change the perception and behaviors of 7.800 people in processing and recycling of household waste.
Environmental protection, including waste management is a pressing issue in Vietnam, especially in the era of industrialization and modernization. Experience has demonstrated that raising the awareness for community about this problem is really crucial.
The project “Waste Management for Hoang Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city” is funded through Damen Song Cam Shipyard (DSCS) by the Netherlands Development Finance Company – FMO. The project’s objectives are:
To raise awareness and to improve the practices of villagers in Hoang Dong commune on waste management and environmental protection.
Expected outcomes of the project
– Reduce the environmental pollution; no rubbish dumped into open areas, or burned;
– Raise awareness about environmental protection in locality;
– Improve the living environment with less pollution;
– Creating jobs in sorting/ recycling of waste;
– Increase the income of villagers from waste recycling.
On 29th August 2016, CISDOMA signed a cooperation agreement with DSCS as a technical support partner in terms of community media and organic waste management.
At the signing ceremony, stakeholders expressed their belief that the project will bring positive results for the community in raising awareness about protection of health and environment. In addition, it will improve their living environment and create jobs in waste sorting and recycling. The project also opens up opportunities to develop environmentally friendly agricultural models, which use fertilizer made from organic waste.
